Yolanda Saldívar is most infamous for the murder of Tejano music superstar, Selena. She was born on September 19, 1960, in Galveston, Texas.
Prior to the tragic events, Saldívar was a registered nurse and a devoted fan of Selena. She became heavily involved in Selena's business affairs, initially managing Selena's fan club, and later overseeing the opening of Selena Etc., a boutique. Selena trusted Saldívar greatly, considering her a close friend and confidante.
However, discrepancies and accusations of embezzlement began to surface. Selena's family, particularly her father Abraham Quintanilla Jr., received complaints about Saldívar's management of the fan club and boutique. It was alleged that Saldívar was mishandling funds, and this led to growing tensions between Selena and Saldívar.
On March 31, 1995, Selena confronted Saldívar at a Days Inn motel in Corpus Christi, Texas, regarding the missing money. The confrontation escalated, and Saldívar shot Selena in the back as the singer attempted to leave the room. Selena died later that day at a local hospital due to blood loss.
Saldívar's trial was highly publicized. She initially claimed the shooting was accidental, but her story changed multiple times. Ultimately, she was found guilty of first-degree%20murder and sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years. She remains incarcerated in a Texas prison. The motive for the murder remains a subject of speculation, with some believing it was due to fear of exposure for her embezzlement, while others suggest it was driven by obsession and the fear of losing her connection to Selena.
